Truro and District Club Motor - Tregrehan Hill Climb Nr St Austell – Sunday 12th September

During the West of England Steam Rally at Stithians I was approached by a member of the Truro and District Motor Club about our club attending a Hill Climb. Having never been to this event members agreed it would make a pleasant change. So on Sunday 12th September Mark, Steve, Martin, Will, Vince, Josh and Luke ascended on Chivey Services. We then made our way to Asda St Austell where we met John and Andrew and then continued a couple of miles to Tregrehan.
On arrival we were shown up the hill to an area where about 60 Classic cars were on display, we were lucky though to be parked facing all the action. Practice started around 11.00 with each car having 2 runs to learn the coarse. During the lunchtime break Classic Car owners were invited to form a cavalcade up the hill. After a briefing, Mark, Luke and Josh decided to have a go. We were all in the 2nd group 8 sec's apart, although not at full race pace we all had a good go and it certainly wetted our appetites to get a race licence.
The afternoon action started around 2.pm with all the cars now being timed, sadly there were no Capri's but there were Mk1 and Mk2 Escorts and an Escort Cosworth they all did well. One of the Mk1 Escorts won its class 1400cc to 2000cc beating such cars as Lotus Elise, Lotus Elan and Morgan 4/4. Members started to head off around 4pm with the last of us at 5.pm when the action had finished. This was an excellent day out and I am sure we will be revisiting again next time. (maybe race prepared)
Season Finale Run - Sunday 26th September 2010
Roseland Peninsula to St Mawes Castle

What a turn out! We had a good 10 cars for our final run of the season, no doubt boosted by a great year for new members joining - and great to see some young blood joining the ranks too.
Starting from Chiverton Services, we headed out towards Truro, then cut across towards Playing Place and headed down to the King Harry Ferry. While waiting for the ferry, a group of Scouts were having a charity windscreen washing event. We were quite amused by their vocalised concern that we were all paying them NOT to wash our screens!
Once safely across the river, we continued down to St Mawes Castle and parked up in their car park. Lunch was consumed and pleasantries exchanged. Noone wanted to go into the castle itself, so once ready, we headed down towards St Mawes itself and drew a great many admiring glances from the people wandering round the town.
A return journey up the Roseland Peninsula made for a great run to end the 2010 season.
Club Christmas Party - Saturday December 4th 2010
We will be holding our own party this year.
The Christmas 2010 Party is going to be held at the Smugglers Inn just outside Hayle.
There are a few rooms available for people to stay over if they wish to, up to 15 people can be accommodated, though some are family rooms so some of us would have to share. (That's how rumours start - look at poor William Hague...)
We have free use of the function room, there is a bar and small dance floor. Martyn Tripp has kindly offered to do the disco again for us (he was at the RS party last year).
Prices for the meal will start at £11.00 per head. The rooms cost £20 per person if they can all be filled - but will revert to £25 per person of not - this does include breakfast.

Season Finale Run - Sunday 26th September 2010
Roseland Peninsula to St Mawes Castle
Details are emerging about the Season Finale Run for 2010. (AND WHERE EXACTLY DID THAT YEAR GO THEN?!?!?)
Following the success of our crossing on the King Harry Ferry for last year's finale run, we shall be returning to the Roseland peninsula - following a similar route to last year - but in reverse (the route, not all the cars).
Boconnoc Steam Fair - Sunday 25th July 2010

Early Sunday morning Tris and Sam, complete with their dog Tilly, picked me up from my place and made their way up to meet Mark and Julie, Carl and Sally at Chiverton Cross.
So... Onwards and upwards, Tris set off up the A30 complete with sat nav and me for directions to Boconnoc. We met up with Nigel, Paul and Marlene on the way.
On arrival, the poor weather had left it's toll, just a little muddy! We were shown to our positions where we set up for the day. It turned out to be a glorious day with the sun beaming down and drying out the showground, making tit a very enjoyable day.
There were many different types of cars, commercial vehicles, military vehicles, military engines, motor cycles, tractors and tractor pulling, steam car and steam engines and of course, Mark's favourite, stationary engines.
Wow! What a lot to see.
That's without the craft displays and traders section including including the fair, even the house had been opened for the day. This was an excellent day out for all the family in an idyllic setting.
This is a show that should not be missed next year. Make sure you include it in next year's calendar, perhaps to replace Powderham?

Wadebridge Wheels - Sunday 18th July 2010

Held at Royal Cornwall showground Wadebridge, this show was attended by Mark, Steve, Carl, Sally, Winston, Malcolm, Paul and Nigel.
The day started rather on the damp side however once we parked our cars the sun began to make an appearance. There was a good selection of many different Classics and Fords were well represented, although overall numbers were down on previous years. We managed to speak to a couple of Traders for Hendra 2011 and some Classic Fords, one being a very tidy Escort Mk1 Mexico. Pity about the owner though, he didn't believe in paying an entry fee (even for charity) miserable git!
To sum up, not a bad show but I was not happy with the organisers putting us (and the Ford clubs) up on the hill again. This area should be reserved for the modern chavs!
Mark's Chauffeur Duties - Saturday 17th July 2010
Mawnan Smith / Falmouth.

On Saturday 17th July, I was invited along with my Mk1 to drive a Bride and her Father to the Church for her wedding day, then the Bride and Groom to their reception.
So it was an early start, cleaning the Capri inside and out, the Bride did ask for the passenger seat to be removed for easy access. Last job was to fit the ribbons (which I had to tighten a couple of times).
I set off to the Bride's home at Falmouth for 1.30 arrival, after a short wait it was time to open the door for the bride and her Dad and off to Mawnan Smith Church. We arrived at the church with a minute to spare, although the Bride was calm.
I then had 1 hour to wait around which seemed to pass very quickly. I was soon time to leave with the Bride and Groom, this being the most nervous part of the day with 120 guests waving and throwing confetti. "Please start" of course it did and it was off to the reception at The Shed, Falmouth.
Would I do it again? Yes, I probably would, although it was nerve-wracking, it did help that the family were really nice people.
Season Premiere Run, Sunday 18th April 2010

Well, we prayed for the sun Gods to shine for us - and they delivered - in spades!
We all met at The Bird in Hand Pub in Hayle and prepared for our first trip of the year. Tris's mate Julian turned up with his son Harry in their Focus Millennium, so Harry could see some real cars in action!
After the usual catch up with everyone, we all set off from Hayle, down the A30 to Penzance. Julian had gone ahead of everyone and shot a short video of us all as we drove past Penzance's main car park on the seafront: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGirq6qiSNg
We weaved our way from Penzance across to St Just and arrived at our first destination, Botallack.
After parking, Tris surveyed the access to the cliff front car park and made the executive decision that we would be able to all get down there okay.
The usual photoshoot ensued and we then made our way from Botallack along the breathtaking B3306 towards St Ives.
After arriving at the Balnoon Inn a tad late, we enjoyed a hearty carvery and carried on home from there.
What a great first run of the season - the weather was perfect, the route, though narrow in parts, was one of the most spectacular that we've done yet!
