On Friday 16 July members of Duchy Capri & Classic Ford Club’s Show Committee handed a cheque to Cornwall Hospice Care for the sum of £600. This money was raised at our Classic Ford Show at Holywell Bay Fun Park in May.
We had 10 cars for this one, which was a great turn-out considering the weather – very wet and very unusual at this show which is normally dry. We spent the first couple of hours stood under the gazebo, but around mid day the rain had eased so we had a walk around.
There were some great cars on display in the concours section, one RS Fiesta had 4 people trying to dry it and keep the rain off. One car that really stood out though was Sierra RS 500, it was so clean it had to been tailored, but no the owner had driven in the rain over 300 miles and spent the previous day cleaning. It was stunning, so clean and a credit to the owner.
This year to boost numbers non Ford Club’s were in attendance including the Subaru Club, BMW Club and Jap Club all a bit modern really. It was great to catch up with Ford owners, some that were at our show, for a chat. As in previous years we really enjoyed the day and it was soon time for the Trophies and the Raffle.
Last year we won best non RS Club, but to be fair due to the weather we didn’t make much of an effort this year and best Club went to the Jap Club.
A big thank you to Mike and all at Cornwall RS for a great day.
With the weather unsettled and the fact that we hadn’t organised a show for 4 years – we were a little anxious to say the least.
But we needn’t had worried as Sunday turned out perfect, with blue skies and gorgeous Classic Fords.
We had well over 120 Fords attending from a 1920’s Model A to a brand new 2016 Focus RS, and cars from London and Leeds. As well as individual Fords, Club’s included Obviously Ford, Cornwall RS Owners, OSF and Devon RS Owners.
From early afternoon there was a show ‘n’ shine competition with some classes proving very hard to pick a winner. Overall car of the Show was an Escort RS Cosworth from Devon RS Owners, it was stunning.
Our own club looked amazing with a great mixture of Fords, although we couldn’t award ourselves best club, this was awarded to Cornwall RS.
A big thank you to all members who helped before and on the day. Next year’s Classic Ford Show will be on Sunday 23rd May 2017.
With this being a new show, we didn’t know what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised as there were some great cars on display both inside and outside. My favourite was a midnight blue Capri 3.0S, which was only painted a week before, it was stunning. It is 40 years since the fiesta was launched and this was celebrated with mk1 to mk7 fiesta’s on show.
For £1 you could enter to win a Ford Focus ST, so we had a few goes – here’s hoping!
Tiff Needell was live on Saturday talking about his life in Motorsport, cars he’s driven, Top Gear and 5th Gear.
Barons Classic Auctioneers held Europe’s first Classic Ford only Auction with 52 lots. We had a good look around, but only serious bidders were allowed once the auction started, so we are unaware of the results, but we can only imagine prices were high. This is a great location and we can see this show going from strength to strength.
